Sponsorship Criteria

ABOUT

Our Students,
Schools, and Sponsors

ANSWER selects and oversees the education of students whose families are unable to provide them with a quality education because of their very poor economic situation. Our aim is to provide upward social mobility and to have better representation for people living in poverty in government, civil service and the public sector. Below is the criteria we look for when selecting our students, schools and sponsors.

Student Selection Criteria

Financially disadvantaged family:

Income of student’s family is oftentimes less than $1 per day per person. The average family household income for ANSWER students ranges from $1,000-$2,500 per year.

Desire to Excel:

Student must demonstrate she/he wants to excel by having regular school attendance, excellent grades, and positive evaluations from principal and teachers.

Leadership Potential

Student must show leadership potential via oral exam, personal interview, and extracurricular activities such as quiz contests, music, sports, etc…

Follow Requirements

Family must agree to follow ANSWER requirements by:  providing study time at home, maintaining contact with ANSWER Nepal staff, and reporting any problems.

Preference

Girls/young women, low caste or minority ethnic groups are given preference.

School Selection Criteria

Geographical Distribution

Schools throughout Nepal are selected in order to access and represent all ethnicities.

Stability

Schools must have committed principals who show continuity of close oversight and care for students.

Good Rapport

Arrangements must be made with schools based on mutual understanding and agreement of guidelines for oversight and reporting.

More than One Private School

Ideally, we partner with more than one school in a village, town or city.

Sponsor Selection Criteria

Get to Know Us

Have a standing with ANSWER through a member, friend, or  community or person.

Make Payments and Send Letters

Be willing to make payments and write letters or emails to the student at least twice per year.

Understand Risks

Accept that a student might be discontinued for not maintaining required performance, attendance, or ethical standards.

Be a Support System

Be willing to counsel your student on a viable professional career path, even if the student wants to pursue an unrealistic path. For example, a student may spend many years trying to get into Medical School, when the chances of scoring higher on the entrance exam than 40,000 others taking the exam is highly unlikely.

Stay Religiously Neutral

Although we recruit sponsors in churches, our organization is secular-based.  Having an open discussion about religion, spirituality, or politics with an older student is valid.
