Jenny & Trevor Hall’s Visit Was One of Serendipity

After seven years exchanging letters and pictures with our ANSWER student, Kajol, my husband Trevor and I decided it was our last chance fulfill her perennial question – “When are you coming to visit me in Nepal?” She was finishing her college program in dental hygiene in the fall of 2017, so we decided to join Earle’s October trip.

Our whole adventure was amazing, but the highlight was traveling to visit Kajol’s family in the Eastern region of the country. This involved a 45 minute flight to Biratnagar, followed by a four hour taxi ride on rugged roads to Dhankuta. Kajol had met us in Kathmandu (involving a twelve hour bus ride), so we had her, along with ANSWER staffer extraordinaire Sangeeta Shrestha, to interpret and navigate for us. This was a true immersion into Nepali culture. We were welcomed warmly everywhere we went, and are so pleased to feel we now have an extended family halfway around the world!

While touring other places in Nepal and visiting schools we were able to meet her boyfriend! But then back in Pokhara we met his good friend Nabin who happened to be an ANSWER student in Agriculture needing a sponsor. What a small world it is! So, as Kajol had just graduated, we sponsored Nabin. So, in the end, we didn’t lose a daughter; we gained a son!
